This HORIZION WIDERA-funded project is dedicated to enhancing capabilities to protect archaeological sites from illegal excavations and looting across the EMMENA region. The Chairholder contributes criminological expertise, leads a work package, and is partnered with partnered Eratosthenes Centre of Excellence (Cyprus), Barcelona Supercomputing Center (Spain), and Fondazione Bruno Kessler (Italy). CPP4ALL is a 4-year action funded by The European Cooperation in Science and Technology (COST Association) that integrates, harmonizes, and disseminates existing knowledge while fostering the development of innovative services and tools to enhance cultural property protection across Europe and beyond. The PRICELESS Project, funded by the Dutch National Research Council (NVO) studies financial crime and the valuation of unique goods, particularly art and watches, under the banner of subversive crime. The European Research Council (ERC)-funded TRANSFORM Project studied the complex relationships between people and special objects (around antiquities, wildlife, and fossils) and how those relationships can lead to crime.  The Chairholder was the Principal Investigator of this Project. In response to a tender for research by the European Commission, this study contributed to a better understanding of the illicit trade in cultural goods in Europe by providing insights into its various aspects, such as source, transit and destination of illicitly traded goods. Criminogenic Collectables

Criminogenic Collectables

Supported by the Scottish Funding Council Global Challenges Research Fund, this project allowed a team of diverse criminologically-trained scholars from institutions in the UK, South Africa, New Zealand, and Fiji to conduct fieldwork on thee continents about “criminogenic collectables”: rare and precious objects that seem to inspire crime. The Chairholder was the Principle Investigator of this project.

Trafficking Culture Logo

Trafficking Culture, funded by the European Research Council, was a project that  conducted evidence-based research into the contemporary global trade in looted cultural objects. It established a body of reliable evidence that supports the formulation of effective cultural heritage protection policy. The Chairholder was a Key Contributor to this Project.
